capital city is a collective that makes narrative performance. It was founded in southeast London in 2024. Its members are George Lynch, Joe Davies, Alex McKenzie, Tom Hardwick-Allan, and Hannah Taverner.
cc's first major production was the play 12april, which debuted at CCA Glasgow in November 2024. cc has since produced performances for London Performance Studios and Beaconsfield Gallery and is developing a new play for Les Urbaines Festival 2025.
George Lynch is a writer. Recent publications of their work include: Oxford Poetry, Fieldnotes Journal, Sticky Fingers Publishing, Datableed Journal. Their work involves performance. As both a performer and director, they have shown work at Galerie Molitor (Berlin), CCA Glasgow, London Performance Studios and Cafe Oto, among others. They program and produce events at The Horse Hospital. In 2025, they founded The Horse Hospital Collective.
Hannah Taverner is a performer, artist, and actor. They work across stage, film, and site-specific locations. Recent performances include shows at Wysing Art Centre (Cambridge, UK), PRIMARY (Nottingham, UK), and The Horse Hospital (London, UK). They are based in South-East London.
Tom Hardwick-Allan is an artist based in London. Alex McKenzie is a multi-instrumentalist, composer, producer, and improvising musician based in London. Their artistic output primarily takes the form of collaborative work, as a member of the groups Shovel Dance Collective, Gentle Stranger, caroline, and Search Engine Quartet. As an improviser they have performed with artists including Moor Mother, Evan Parker, Elaine Mitchener, and more. They regularly perform both within the UK and internationally, and their work has been featured in publications such as Pitchfork, The Wire, The Quietus, and The Guardian, on radio stations such as BBC Radios 3, 4, and 6, NTS, and on NPR's Tiny Desk Concert series.
Joe Davies' practice explores the social histories of objects through their embodied, emotional charge. His work usually takes the form of expansive installations strewn with combinations of the given and the made. Results are often uncanny, occupying a zone between archeological reconstruction and fictional tableaux. His practice also involves regular collaboration with other artists and musicians with a focus on analogue technologies, multimedia and expanded cinema. He has shown in artist-run and DIY spaces internationally and nationally, exhibitions include The Listeners, The Horse Hospital (2024), XX-XX-XXXX, West Werk, Hamburg (2023) and always already, Old Souvenirs, Zona Mista, London (2021).
